Movie Poster Promo

Chelloha earthlings! Thanks for reading my blog. Our current project is we are making a movie trailer and designing a movie poster to go along with it. But here's the catch; we don't have a movie to base it off of! Well technically we have an idea for a movie... but anyway, the idea we are doing is a movie called "The Great Chicken Heist". It's about a rich society dame (me haha) who get robbed by a burglar (who uses a stuffed chicken to knock me out). The burglar steals nothing but my amethyst ring which id the key to my bank account, and me and the detective (played by Talia) go on a hunt to find the killer (played by Arianna). My teammates are Maddie, Talia, and Arianna. Anyway, in this post I will tell you about it...
This was Draft #1 of my movie poster!
The picture above is the first draft of my movie poster. Our goal is to have a somewhat of a film noir, cheesy, mystery type of thing. The people in the silhouette are Talia (left), Maddie (middle), and I'm on the very end. I tried to mimic the Charlies Angles pose with my picture. I quick selected the three of us into a new layer, applied a black color overlay, and topped it all off with a stroke. I had originally had the background as a black and white gradient, but then I realized that wasn't technically a setting so I changed the color balance to give it a creepy horror house look (it's my house in the background haha). In the picture, Talia is supposed to be looking around for the robber, Maddie is wielding her garden shovel in anger, and I'm looking at my ring. We might cut out Maddie's scene so she may eventually end up being irrelevant, but in the case that that happens, then I will edit her out (sorry Maddie!).

This was my 2nd draft.
Well at one point we were stumped about what we were call our "movie". Our original idea was The Hit Woman, but we opted out of that because we are going to eventually present them to second-graders. Then we were thinking that it would be pretty hilarious if we named it off the chicken that was going to knock me out. The Great Chicken Heist is what we came up with :). The other text that was required was reviews, the studio name, rating, and the actors names. We added an extra text piece saying "Will they find the culprit?" just for fun too. I liked the idea of putting in Marshmallow Magazine, Squirrel Weekly, and Rainbow Reviews just because it was silly (in a cool way). Also I added a review from George Clooney but then I realized that would be illegal so I changed it to Jeorge Klooney. Kerning is something you do to your text so that everything looks visually appealing. You make the text lines proportional by changing the size and spacing of the letters. Just as an example, I used kerning on all of my double or more lined text.

I think the overall impact that my poster has is very strong. I think that all the effects I used really helped to thoroughly represent our movie. I set the scene of a spooky thriller and provided interesting hints to the plot. Personally, I really like a movie poster that gives hints to what the movie is about and gives you a little something to think about. And I tried to really make the text easier to read by putting drop shadows on most of my text layers.

Well that's all for this post. I really hoped you enjoyed it! We will probably post our actual trailers after we return from winter break. Speaking of which (or typing for that matter), for the holidays I'm going on vacation to visit my family on the mainland. And a special added bonus we are going to Disneyland! Yay! What are you doing for the happy holidays? What ever it is, I hope it's fun and joyful. I hope to post again soon!
